on the side of square shaft, while installing,
the arrow and the handle are connected in a line, and it must keep
the arrow side always facing the latch

Unlock: the door can be opened by lifting up or pulling down
Lock: the door cannot be opened by lifting up or pulling down.
If the arrow side is wrong during installation, it would cause following situations:
